§ Mr. NEEDHAM
asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will take steps to secure payment to the Public Trustee, of all moneys owing to enemy subjects by British subjects resident in the United Kingdom?
My right hon. Friend has asked me to answer this question. As548W British traders are unable to obtain payment of amounts due to them by enemies I am disposed to think that it would be in-expedient, as a general rule, to diminish the capital available for carrying on their business by compelling them to pay to the Public Trustee the debts which they owe to enemies.
