§ The Earl of Avon
My Lords, I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in their Amendments Nos. 182 to 186 en bloc. Amendments Nos. 189 to 200 are also of the same type. The species of List A are all those on Appendix 1 of the Washington Convention—that is, those regarded internationally as endangered—together with others, such as birds of prey, on which the United Kingdom has traditionally had strict controls. In New Delhi in February and March of this year, the third meeting of the parties to CITES, including the United Kingdom, agreed certain amendments to Appendix 1 of the convention. The amendments which the House is now considering incorporate the changes to the appendix. With the exception of Amendment No. 186, they all concern the addition of species to the list. The species to be added will in effect from 6th June 1981 be banned from international commercial trade. There is one species, the bontebok, which has been removed. I beg to move.
§ Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said amendments.—(The Earl of Avon.)
§ On Question, Motion agreed to.
