§ 21. Mr. W. Hamilton
asked the Secretary of State for Scotland to what extent his Department uses the publicity services of the Central Office of Information to publicise the industrial potentialities of Scotland, and the opportunities available for foreign investment.
§ Mr. Maclay
My Department fully utilises the Central Office of Information publicity services for these purposes.
§ Mr. Hamilton
Can the right hon. Gentleman give any examples of the kind of pamphlet or leaflet which has been issued by the C.O.I at the instigation of the Scottish Office? Is he aware that very elaborate pamphlets are produced for recruiting campaigns for the Services and, in view of the unsatisfactory state of Scottish industry, will he consider using the efficient services of the Central Office of Information in this regard?
§ Mr. Maclay
The hon. Member will be interested to know that Scottish industrial news items are sent daily to the C.O.I. Overseas Press Service which distributes them to Government information officers in every part of the world, and that in addition a monthly Scottish newsletter with a large proportion of industrial items goes out from the C.O.I. and is sent to twenty overseas countries for use by Press and radio.
§ Sir J. Duncan
Would not my right hon. Friend agree that the efforts of the Central Office of Information to help industry in Scotland are hampered by the gloomy approach of hon. Members opposite?
