§ The Under-Secretary of State for War (Mr. Fitzroy Maclean)
We know that many of these married quarters are unsatisfactory. A programme of improvements has been drawn up. Letter-boxes and bells or knockers on the front doors will be provided as soon as possible.
§ Mr. Dodds
Is the hon. Member aware that I note with interest the activity which has taken place since I put down the Question? Is he aware of the miserable conditions under which Service men's families have to live at Woolwich? Would he consider the creation of some machinery whereby the wives can have consultation with somebody about making the conditions much more tolerable, because the women would like to be considered?
§ Mr. Maclean
The hon. Member is quite wrong in thinking that he was the first person to draw our attention to the need for improvements. We have been 978 aware of this for a long time, but all these matters have to be dealt with in order of priority.
