§ Mr. Hardman
It is a requirement of the Primary and Secondary Schools (Grant Conditions) Regulations that a teacher's first year of service as a Qualified Teacher in a maintained or assisted school shall be a probationary year during which he must give proof of his practical proficiency as a teacher. In the case of teachers trained under the emergency scheme the period of probation is two years.
1952 Service in direct grant grammar schools and schools recognised as efficient but not aided by grant is not subject to probation. Teachers who, after completing an approved course of training, take their first posts in such schools will not need to be approved as qualified teachers unless and until they transfer to a maintained or assisted school. If a teacher does so transfer, he will become liable to serve the probationary period but in such cases his previous service may be taken into consideration in deciding whether the full period of probation shall be required or whether it shall be reduced or waived altogether.
