§ 19. Mr. Hynd
asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he is aware that sailors discharged from hospital before the regulation pay-day and having long journeys to travel to their depots are provided with neither rations nor money for the journey; and whether his Department will make all necessary arrangements with hospitals to ensure that such cases are fully provided for.
The hospital referred to in the Question is an Emergency Hospital. I am informed by my right hon. and learned Friend the Minister of Health that arrangements have been made for Service patients discharged from hospitals in the Emergency Hospital Scheme to be provided with a haversack ration of food if it is not possible for them to reach their unit before the next meal-time. Such patients are also provided with money for the journey by the Military Registrar. In view of the circumstances related in my hon. Friend's letter, I am looking into the specific cases which he has been good enough to bring to my notice and I will communicate with him again.
