§ 1. Mrs. Cazalet Keir
asked the Minister of Labour whether he is now in a position to make a statement with regard to the setting-up of a committee to investigate the best way of organising the service of domestic workers?
§ The Minister of Labour (Mr. Ernest Bevin)
This matter, the importance and urgency of which I fully appreciate, is one of considerable difficulty and has necessitated a great deal of close and detailed study. I have made progress in my consideration of the problem and have certain proposals in mind designed to alleviate the present situation, but I have not yet completed my consultations with my colleagues. As soon as I am in a position to announce definite plans I will make a statement to the House.
§ Mr. Mander
Will my right hon. Friend bear in mind that the present time is a very appropriate time to bring forward proposals of this kind, in view of the great 1282 difficulty which anyone experiences in getting any kind of domestic help?
