§ 45. Mr. John Dugdale
asked the Prime Minister whether he is in a position to make a statement on the work performed by Lord Swinton in West Africa?
§ The Deputy Prime Minister (Mr. Attlee)
It is less than two months since Lord Swinton took up his post of Resident Minister in British West Africa; and it is clearly too soon to give the House a comprehensive report of his work there. But it is already apparent that his appointment is resulting in a most valuable contribution to the war effort. It has met with ready acceptance from all sections in British West Africa, and Lord Swinton is receiving wholehearted assistance from all concerned in whatever sphere.
§ Mr. Dugdale
While I fully recognise that it may be impossible to make a statement on what he has done, is it not possible to make a statement on what he is expected to do?
