§ 37. Mr. Liddall
asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether his attention has been called to the difficulty motor hauliers have in getting commercial vehicles for National Service whilst unrestricted sale of the same is proceeding; and whether he will introduce machinery to safeguard essential needs and prevent public exploitation in the uncontrolled disposal of these vehicles?
§ Captain McEwen
The sale of new commercial vehicles and certain ex-Government vehicles is already subject to a system of control administered by my Department. The question of extending this control to second-hand goods vehicles generally will be considered in the light of the Report of the Panel of Investigators the appointment of which was announced on 16th June in reply to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Denbigh (Sir H. Morris-Jones).
§ Mr. Liddall
Does not my hon. and gallant Friend consider that the war effort suffers through these hauliers not being able to secure the replacements at a reasonable figure?
