§ 20. Mr. Quibell
asked the Secretary of State for War how many divisional field cashiers of the British Expeditionary Force evacuated from France returned to this country with all public and private moneys entrusted to them intact; the names of the officers; the designation of their respective divisions; and in what capacity such officers are now employed?
§ Mr. Eden
I do not think that the information asked for would serve any useful purpose in the public interest. I may say, however, that the great majority of divisional and corps field cashiers were able to return with their public money intact. The fact that some were unable to do so was due to conditions arising from enemy action which were beyond the control of the officers concerned. Field cashiers do not have private moneys entrusted to them in their official capacity.
