§ 43. Colonel Wedgwood
asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has seen the statement, signed by 200 members of Congress, protesting against the proposed abandonment by Great Britain of the Balfour Declaration relating to Palestine; and whether, in view of the importance of the good will of the United States of America, he will postpone the declaration of the new policy with a view to reconsidering it in the light of the present world situation?
Mr. M. MacDonald
I understand that reports have appeared in the American Press indicating that such a statement has been signed. It has not been communicated to His Majesty's Government. The right hon. and gallant Gentleman can rest assured that the policy of His Majesty's Government regarding Palestine will be considered in the light of the world situation, and that it will take full account of their obligations towards both Arabs and Jews.
