§ 68. Mr. R. Morgan
asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what is the position with regard to the claim of £5,500,000 against Kenya and Uganda in respect of the original cost of construction of the Uganda railway; whether the Government is agreeable to the cancellation of this claim; and, if so, under what conditions?
Mr. M. MacDonald
It has been decided to invite Parliament to agree to the remission, subject to one condition, of the claim 1723 for £5,500,000 in respect of the original cost of construction of the Kenya-Uganda Railway. The condition is that a sum of £500,000 should be transferred from the reserve funds of the railway to a supplementary sinking fund earmarked towards the redemption of the 1921 Kenya Loan.
