§ 29. Mr. Lipson
asked the Minister of Agriculture what the price of milk was immediately prior to the establishment of the Milk Marketing Board; what the price is now; and the price received in each case by the producer?
§ The Minister of Pensions (Mr. Ramsbotham)
I have been asked to reply. The retail prices of milk per quart on which the Ministry of Labour index numbers for 1932 and 1937 were based were 6d. and 6½d. respectively. The average pool price received by registered producers in England and Wales in the year ended 30th September, 1937 (the last complete year for which figures are available), was 11.99 pence per gallon of milk sold by wholesale. Comparable information regarding producers' prices prior to the scheme is not available.
