§ 18. Mr. BENJAMIN SMITH
asked the President of the Board of Trade whether it is the practice of his Department to inspect the supplies of food taken on board ship for the use of the crew, for the purpose of ensuring good quality and adequacy; and what action, if any, is taken by his Department against the owners of vessels which are inadequately provided for in this respect?
§ Mr. RUNCIMAN
Yes, Sir; under the Merchant Shipping Acts there is a comprehensive system of inspection of ships' 1486 provisions and appropriate action is taken by the Board's inspectors if provisions are deficient in quality or quantity.
