54. Miss WARD
asked the President of the Board of Education whether, in view of the urgent desirability of making adequate provision for the teaching of practical handwork, cooking, sewing and physical training, he will consider setting up a committee to consider how far the present facilities supply the need?
I am fully alive to the importance of an adequate supply of teachers of the subjects mentioned by my hon. Friend. The matter is one which will clearly call for fresh consideration when the Education Bill now before Parliament is passed, and I will bear in mind my hon. Friend's suggestion of a committee.
§ Mr. ELLIS SMITH
Will the right hon. Gentleman also bear in mind that working-class girls and women are already acquainted with these subjects?
That was not really the point I had in mind. The question was as to facilities for training centres and classes and an opportunity for children to attend them.
