§ 80. Mr. LYONS
asked the President of the Board of Trade the output of and the number of workers at present engaged in Great Britain in the fellmongery industry; and whether he is aware that output and employment 1724 would be largely increased if the product of the industry received the same degree of protection that is accorded to other conversion processes in the wool textile industry?
§ Mr. RUNCIMAN
As regards the first part of the question, I regret that no information for a year later than 1930 is yet available. As regards the second part, an application for the imposition of an import duty on fellmongered wool was considered last year by the Import Duties Advisory Committee, who announced on 4th September, 1935, that they had decided to make no recommendation. It is, however, open to the trade interests concerned, if they have any fresh facts to bring forward, to make a fresh application.
