§ 22. Mr. ROLAND ROBINSON
asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air what has been the outcome of his correspondence with the Blackpool Airport Committee and the Blackpool Tower Company with a view to the summit of Blackpool Tower being lighted at night to secure the guidance and safety of aircraft; and whether the Air Ministry is prepared to bear the cost of the installation and maintenance of the light?
§ Sir P. SASSOON
The present stage of the correspondence is that the Blackpool Corporation have intimated their view that the illumination, which they fully realise to be necessary and for which the Blackpool Tower Company are prepared to grant an easement, cannot fairly be regarded as a local responsibility and that the cost should be a national charge. I find it difficult to accept this view, and I hope that as a result of further discussion the corporation will be able to take the charge.
