§ 33. Sir W. DAVISON
asked the Minister of Transport what is the cause of the delay in the completion of Western Avenue; how much of the avenue has been completed and how much remains to be carried out; whether any work on this road is at present in progress; and what are the plans for its completion?
§ Lieut.-Colonel HEADLAM
Approximately 6 miles of Western Avenue have been completed, leaving about 7 miles yet to be carried out. The construction of a 4½ mile length between Greenford and Hillingdon was postponed at the time of the financial crisis in 1931, but my hon. Friend has recently offered a grant towards the cost of this section, which is estimated at £260,000, and I understand that the first portion will shortly be put in hand.
§ Sir W. DAVISON
May I ask that the hon. and gallant Gentleman will recognise the urgency of completing this road at as early a date as possible?
