§ 3. Brigadier-General NATION
asked the Home Secretary whether he can state the circumstances under which a man named Dearnley, who was serving a life sentence for murder, was recently released after a period of nine years in prison?
Commuted life sentences are reviewed at intervals and in August of last year it was decided that having regard to all the circumstances of the case Dearnley should be released on licence when he had earned marks for good conduct representing a sentence of 12 years. The prisoner and his friends were so informed. In pursuance of that decision Dearnley was released on the 11th of November.
§ Brigadier-General NATION
Has there been anything abnormal in the conduct of the Home Office in regard to this prisoner who has been under life sentence?
