§ 34. Mr. HORRABIN
asked the Under-secretary of State for the Colonies whether any steps have been taken by the Government of Nigeria to implement the findings of the Aba Commission of Inquiry as regards the officers responsible for the orders to open fire during the disturbances in south-eastern Nigeria in November and December, 1929?
§ Dr. SHIELS
The report of the Commission was referred to the Secretary of State with the comments of the local authorities. My Noble Friend's decision, in regard to the findings in question, is expressed in paragraph 4 of his despatch to the Acting Governor, which has been recently presented to Parliament, and from which it will be seen that, whilst various proposals for reform have been accepted for early adoption, no ground has been found for disciplinary action against the officers commanding the detachments of troops concerned.
