62. Dr. DAVIES
asked the President of the Board of Education how many children, if any, will be kept out of employment in 1931–32 and in 1932–33 by reason of the compulsory raising of the school age?
§ Sir C. TREVELYAN
It is estimated that an average of 157,000 children in 1931–32, and 396,000 in 1932–33, will be retained in the schools as a result of the raising of the leaving age as from April, 1931.
Does the right hon. Gentleman regard this as one of the methods by which a great number of the unemployed can be dealt with?
§ 64. Mr. MORLEY
asked the President of the Board of Education if the raising of the school-leaving age is to be postponed till a later date than April, 1931?
