§ 21. Mr. LANSBURY
asked the Minister of Health the names of those boards of guardians who impose stone breaking as a task for casuals; and whether the task is imposed on all who apply for assistance, irrespective of age?
I will send the hon. Member the names of the 143 boards of guardians mentioned in the reply which I gave him on this subject last Monday. The reply to the second part of the question is in the negative.
§ Mr. MONTAGUE
Can the right hon. Gentleman say what is the commercial significance of this stone-breaking; what is done with the stone; is it sold?
§ Mr. LANSBURY
I really want to know who are the persons who are expected to fulfil the task of stonebreaking?
Those to whom the guardians decide to apply it, and 1325 whose strength and capacity are suitable for the purpose.
Hon. Members have had an opportunity of finding out ever since the days when their own Government was in office; this task was then in operation.
