asked the Undersecretary of State for India what were the circumstances which necessitated the appointment as private secretary to the Secretary of State of a gentleman not already on the staff at the India Office; and whether he will state the salary paid to this officer before and after his transfer?
§ The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Earl Winterton)
It was considered that, having regard to the volume if work, justification existed for a special additional appointment of assistant private secretary to the Secretary of State for India. The salary paid to the gentleman appointed to this office- is at the rate of £5000 per annum, plus Civil Service cost of living bonus. He was receiving the same rate of salary before transfer.
