§ 90. Sir JOHN LEIGH
asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies what is the total annual cost to the British taxpayer of the Imperial Institute; when the contributions from the Dominions cease; and how soon the Committee that is inquiring into the financial position expect to report?
§ The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Mr. Ormsby-Gore)
The Grant-in-Aid of the Imperial Institute for the current year is £10,000. I am informed that the indirect contributions of the Imperial Government to the institute in 1921–22 were: Maintenance, etc, £5,334: contribution in lieu of rates, £3,931.
The contribution of the Commonwealth of Australia has already ceased, and that of the Government of India will cease after the current financial year. It is not known whether the contributions of the other Dominions will be continued or not. 1041 The Committee referred to by my hon. Friend has only recently begun its inquiry; and its report can hardly be available for some time.
