asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will issue a statement giving the details of 2002 the loans from certain Allied Governments, amounting to £128,000,000, set forth in the Return of External Debt, 1922, and also a statement of the debts owed by the same Governments to this country against which this part of the external debt may be set off; and what steps are being taken to effect reciprocal cancellation as between Allied Governments and this country?

In the cases of France and Italy, it has been agreed that the loans to His Majesty's Government shall be regarded as available to be set off against the loans made by His Majesty's Government to these countries, and it is not proposed to take any further steps in the matter.
