37. Lieut.-Colonel GUHNNESS
asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that recruits for the police force in Carnarvonshire are debarred from belonging to any secret society except that of the Freemasons; whether he is aware that this restriction operates to the detriment of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes and other societies which are doing admirable work of a philanthropic character; and whether he will take any steps to put all philanthropic secret, societies in the same privileged position as that occupied by the Freemasons?
§ Mr. SHORTT
; I understand that one of the conditions of service in the Carnarvonshire Police is as stated. The conditions are laid down by the County Police Authority, but I will bear the hon. and gallant Member's point in mind if any general Regulation is made on the subject.
Is it not just as objectionable for the R.A.O.B. there that these regulations should be applied in one county as if they were applied generally?
Mr. J. JONES
Will the right hon. Gentleman draw this fact to the attention of the Prime Minister, who comes from that county?
