§ Mr. BOTTOMLEY (by Private Notice)
asked the Leader of the House whether a hitch has occurred in the presentation to Germany of the draft terms of peace, owing to a divergence of opinion on the subject of the League of Nations; and whether, in view of the general desire that the preliminary terms of peace should be signed at the earliest possible moment, he can give the House an assurance that 1740 the terms agreed to with the assent of all the representatives at the Conference prior to Mr. Wilson's return shall be communicated at once to the enemy?
§ Mr. BONAR LAW
I hope that my hon. Friend will realise that it is not possible for the Government to answer questions as to discussions between the Peace Delegates which have always been treated as confidential. This question is in itself an illustration of the difficulty, as it might be assumed that the first part of it is correct. If I leave it unanswered it might be assumed that the first part of the question is correct. To the best of my belief, there is no foundation for it. I have answered this question, but I wish it to be understood that I shall not be expected to answer similar questions in future.
