§ 77. Mr. HADYN JONES
asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of 2223 Munitions whether he will say how the explosives now in the magazine at Dinas Mawddwy are being disposed of; what kind of new explosive is to be introduced; whether he will state the address or situation of the two magazines from which the new explosives have to be cleared; and whether such explosives can be stored in a magazine more accessible than that of Dinas Mawddwy?
The explosives now in the magazine are being dumped into the sea, as they are waste. I do not consider it in the public interest to say what kind of new explosive is to be introduced. The greater part of the new explosive will be brought from Ruabon, where it is stored in a brick works, which have to be evacuated without delay in view of the public necessity of producing bricks on the largest possible scale. The rest will come from Corsham, Wilts, where the magazine has to be relinquished owing to an agreement with the Bath Portland Stone Quarry Company. It is impossible for this quarry to be worked until these explosives are removed. It is impossible to find storage accommodation for this explosive at a more suitable spot than Dinas Mawddwy.
