§ 20. Mr. CECIL HARMSWORTH
asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether, in view of the fact that the official German estimates of German casualties are regarded by eminent military critics in this and other countries as wholly unacceptable, he will consider the desirability of accompanying any further statement on this matter that he may submit to the House with a reasoned analysis of the German official estimates?
§ Mr. TENNANT
To make public the reasoned conclusions reached from the consideration of the German official estimates would, no doubt, gratify legitimate curiosity in this country, but it would also, in a very undesirable way, gratify the curiosity of the German military authorities. As the curiosity of our own fellow citizens can only be gratified by gratifying that of the German military authorities, I submit that the proper course is to gratify neither curiosity. I trust my hon. Friend will agree with me in this conclusion.
