72. Sir HERBERT ROBERTS
asked the Secretary of State for India whether his attention has been called to the opening of a new shop for the sale of foreign liquors near Thakurdwar, Bombay City, without the local advisory committee being consulted, whether he is aware that in another case, in Bombay, a similar shop has been opened, although there were already two licensed premises within a short distance of the site and in spite of the fact that many of the residents, Hindu and Mahomedan, objected to it; whether he is aware that the establishment of 38 liquor shops under these conditions is in contravention of the orders of the Government of India; and whether he can give an assurance that the local advisory committees will in future be consulted in all such cases?
§ The SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Mr. Chamberlain)
I have no information regarding these cases except that supplied to me by my hon. Friend, but I will make inquiries.
