§ 49. Mr. CHARLES BATHURST
asked the Prime Minister if it has been decided to abandon altogether for this Session the introduction of the Bill promised in the King's Speech for establishing a national scheme of education, and to introduce, in lieu thereof, a one-Clause Bill providing for temporary financial assistance to local education authorities; and, if so, whether the Government propose to introduce the larger measure without fail next Session?
§ 51. Mr. KING
asked whether the Education Bill to be introduced next week will contain only one operative Clause; and whether the Bill is of this restricted character, because an effort will be made to pass it into law this Session?
§ The PRIME MINISTER
My right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Education will make a full statement as to the policy of the Government with regard to education on Tuesday next, and I am not prepared to anticipate it.
