§ Mr. HARRY LAWSON
asked under what conditions and by what methods 38 firms of traders are placed on the Board of Trade list for the supply of early information relating to particular trades supplied by Consular Reports?
§ Mr. TENNANT
Applications from all United Kingdom firms are entertained, provided they satisfy the Director of the Board's Commercial Intelligence Branch that they are either manufacturers within the United Kingdom or are concerned mainly in the export of United Kingdom products. An annual subscription of one guinea is charged for the facilities afforded, including the regular supply of the weekly "Board of Trade Journal." I am sending the hon. Member a copy of the form of application and other particulars. In order to avoid misunderstanding I should add that the Commercial Intelligence Branch of the Board of Trade is always ready to answer so far as possible commercial inquiries from British traders whether their names are on the special register or not. In this and other matters affecting the supply of commercial information the Board have the advantage of the advice of their Advisory Committee on Commercial Intelligence, on which the Chambers of Commerce are largely represented.
