§ Mr. COURTHOPE
asked the Undersecretary whether he is aware that small-arm ammunition returned from the South African War, and repacked in 1902, has been issued to the Territorial Force for use in the present year; how many rounds of this ammunition have been so issued; whether this ammunition has previously been issued to the auxiliary forces, and withdrawn from issue owing to complaints being made in the House of Commons of its inaccuracy; and whether the Secretary of State will at once call in this old and unreliable ammunition and order its destruction, so as to prevent the reissue of cartridges which are unfit for any military purpose. The year "1902" should read "1903."
§ Colonel SEELY
I can only answer the question as it appears on the Paper. Orders for the withdrawal of all "re-made" 303 small-arm ammunition were given in 1908, and the War Office have no information as to any being in existence at the present time. If the hon. Member will supply details, enquiries will be made.
