§ Mr. HUNT
asked whether, if the proposed preferential trading arrangements between the United States and Canada are agreed to by both Governments, the United Kingdom and the rest of the British Empire will be able to send goods into the United States at the same rates of import duty as those which will be enjoyed by Canada?
Mr. McKINNON WOOD
If the proposed reductions receive legislative sanction, the duties chargeable on Canadian goods in the United States of America will in some cases be lower than those now chargeable on similar goods from other parts of the British Empire. The Canadian Government have assured His Majesty's Ambassador at Washington that this differentiation is of no practical importance, and the details of the arrangement are now being examined by the Board of Trade.
