§ Resolution reported, "That it is expedient to authorise the remission of a debt due to the Public Works Loans Commissioners in pursuance of any Act of the present Session, to grant money for the purpose of certain local loans out of the Local Loans Fund, and for other purposes relating to local loans."
§ Sir F. BANBURY
I would ask the Parliamentary Secretary whether he gave notice that the Report of this Resolution would be taken to-night?
§ The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Joseph Pease)
I gave notice to the right hon. Gentleman the Member for Somerset that I intended to take it to-night.
§ Mr. HOBHOUSE
The House is asked to remit a sum of £151 for principal and £113 for interest upon a loan by the Commissioners to Eyemouth Harbour. The sum was repayable out of the surplus of what was called the Herring Brand fees. That surplus could only be used for the year for which the amount is chargeable. There was a deficiency for 1906–7. The House is asked to make good the deficiency under the Act passed in 1901.
