I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that on Tuesday night, 11th August last, a shooting outrage took place near Sheehan's Cross, about eight miles from Kilrush, on the main car line to Ennis, West Clare, when Mr. James Griffin was twice fired at from behind a hedge; what arrests have been made and what sentences have been passed on the perpetrators of the outrage; and what steps have been taken for the future protection of Mr. Griffin.
§ MR. BIRRELL
I refer to the answers which I gave to Questions on this subject put by the hon. Member for Mid Armagh on 14th and 21st instant. Two shots were fired at Mr. Griffin on the occasion referred to, and he was slightly injured. He returned the fire, but apparently without effect. No arrests have been made. Mr. Griffin is receiving constant police protection.
