§ MR. KETTLE
I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether any steps will be taken by the Board of Intermediate Education in Ireland to ascertain whether suitable candidates, educated in Ireland 56 and conversant wth Irish educational conditions, are available for appointment to the newly-established inspectorships under that Board before entertaining applications from candidates not so qualified.
§ MR. BIRRELL
The Commissioners of Intermediate Education propose, before making any appointments, to issue advertisements inviting applications for inspectorships, and they hope thus to ascertain whether there are suitable candidates who have been educated in Ireland and are conversant with Irish educational conditions. There is no doubt that, other things being equal, preference will be given to candidates who are either resident in or connected with Ireland.
