§ (Answered by Mr. Secretary Haldane.) The hon. and gallant Member is under a misapprehension in thinking that Militia officers are to be compulsorily retired. The conditions of transfer to the Special Reserve are laid down in Paragraphs 72 and 73 of the Army Order of 23rd December last for the various ranks of Militia officers except lieutenant-colonels. In the case of the latter it is proposed to place them, if they so desire, on an unattached list for the Special Reserve. Honorary rank will cease to be given after this year's training. Officers who do not earn it by Militia service in accordance with Paragraph 45, Militia Regulations, prior to the date fixed for their transfer to the Special Reserve will not receive honorary rank.
