§ MR. BOTTOMLEY
I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home. Department whether he will consider the desirableness of inserting in the Bail Bill a clause forbidding the execution of warrants for arrests on Saturday afternoons, except in such cases as, in the opinion of the officer entrusted with the warrant, delay would defeat the ends of justice.
§ THE UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL,) Yorkshire, Cleveland
The Secretary of State does not think such a clause would be desirable, nor would it be within the scope of the Bill; but he considers that the Bill, by giving magistrates the opportunity of providing for release on bail in such eases, will go as far as is practicable or desirable to effect the purpose the hon. Member has in view.
