§ MR. LONSDALE
I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that at the Sligo Assizes, on Thursday 9th July, ten men were charged with having assembled to disturb the public peace and prevented a postman from delivering His Majesty's mails, that the Judge told the jury that there was no room for doubt, and that the jury disagreed; and whether it is the intention of the executive to allow these persons to escape punishment.
§ MR. BIRRELL
The jury disagreed in the case referred to, and the defendants entered into recognisances to appear at the next Assizes. It will be for my right hon. friend the Attorney-General to decide in due course whether the prosecution is to be continued. The matter has not yet come before him for consideration.
