§ MR. WEDGWOOD
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department by whom the police stations in England and Wales, not being police stations in the metropolitan area, are controlled; and whether they are subject to inspection by the Prison Commissioners.
(Answered by Mr. Secretary Gladstone.) Police stations are controlled by the police authority for the area in which 996 they are situated, which in boroughs is the watch committee and in counties the standing joint committee. They are not subject to inspection by the Prison Commissioners, but are inspected by His Majesty's inspectors of constabulary. The results of that inspection are included in the inspectors' annual Reports (Police (England and Wales).
