§ MR. BECKETT (Yorkshire, N.R., Whitby)
I beg to ask Mr. Attorney- General for Ireland whether Mr. Larkin, J.P., of Ballinasloe, has yet replied to the two letters from the Lord Chancellor, addressed to him on 18th May and 30th May, warning him of the consequences of attending as a magistrate at any petty sessions outside the limits of his district; what was the nature of Mr. Larkin's reply, if any, received before 5th June; and, in the event of no reply having reached the Lord Chancellor, what steps have been taken to enforce obedience with his Lordship's directions.
§ MR. CHERRY
The Lord Chancellor informs me that on the 4th instant he received from Mr. Larkin a written undertaking that he would not exceed the limits of his jurisdiction a san ex-officio magistrate. This Answer applies to the similar Question of the hon. Member for South Antrim, which is addressed to my right hon. friend the Chief Secretary for Ireland.
