§ MR. NANNETTI
I beg to ask the Postmaster-General if he is aware that recently a request for a change of duty made for the purpose of enabling a sorting clerk and telegraphist in Dublin to attend to business in connection with the Dual Workers' Association, was forwarded to the Dublin Secretary for his approval; can he say why this departure from the usual custom was made; if he is aware that the Secretary refused the exchange on the ground that such a course would establish a dangerous precedent; and 1262 will he say whether this action of the Dublin Secretary has his sanction, in view of his own and his predecessor's statements that no hindrance would be placed in the way of sorting clerks and telegraphists performing the work of their various associations.
I am not aware of the circumstances referred to by the hon. Member. The matter appears to be one entirely within the competence of the Secretary to the Post Office in Dublin.
