§ MR. NANNETTI (Dublin, College Green)
I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that Steeven's Hospital, one of the charitable institutions in Dublin to which Government grants are made, has a governing body and the principal members of its staff who are mostly Protestant, though the population of Dublin and the majority of the patients at this hospital are mostly Roman Catholic; and whether, in view of the present circumstances of the hospital 1261 management, the Treasury will take steps before again renewing the grant to this hospital to ensure that the institution is conducted on purely non-sectarian lines, and otherwise in accordance with the conditions governing such grants.—The hon. Member complained that the alterations made in the Question were such that it did not fully convey his meaning.
§ MR. WYNDHAM
At the request of my hon. friend I will reply to this Question. Three of the members of the governing body of the institution are Roman Catholics, and many of the staff are also of the same denomination. I have no evidence whatever before me that the hospital is conducted on sectarian lines, or that the conditions upon which grants from public funds are made to it are not observed and complied with.
