§ MR. TENNANT
I beg to ask Mr. Attorney General for Ireland whether the identical nature of the cases of Deane v. Boyle and Squire v. Sweeney was established by a judicial inquiry; and if so, whether he can supply the report of that inquiry.
§ MR. ATKINSON
The particular point decided by the High Court, which was common to all these cases, was this—that cases such as these did not come within the Truck Acts, inasmuch as the artificer was not bound to execute the work himself or herself. I might be permitted to explain that the bearing and result of this decision were carefully considered at a consultation between the Home Secretary, the English Law Officers, and myself, and the action taken by the Irish Secretary on my advice was based on the result of that consultation.
