§ MR. J. P. FARRELL (Longford, N.)
I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether, amongst the Boer prisoners held in St. Helena, there are a number of Irishmen who had taken the oath of allegiance to the South African Republic; and whether these men are to be tried for their participation in the war, or to be allowed to return to their native home; and, if so, when.
§ * THE FINANCIAL SECRETARY TO THE WAR OFFICE (Lord STANLEY,) Lancashire, Westhoughton
There are some Irish prisoners at St. Helena; they will be treated in the same way as their Boer comrades—as ordinary prisoners of war. No release of prisoners can take place before the termination of the war.
