§ MR. YOXALL (Nottingham, West)
I beg to ask the Vice-President of the 595 Committee of Council on Education whether a temporary clerical assistant has been in charge of the typing room at the Department of Science and Art for about two years; and whether, seeing that there are several established clerks in the Department qualified to occupy the position in question, most of them having much longer service and lesser present remuneration than the temporary clerical assistant in question, the President will inquire into this matter, and in particular into the method by which the temporary clerical assistant was appointed to the said post.
§ THE VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE COMMITTEE OF COUNCIL ON EDUCATION (SIR J. GORST,) Cambridge University
The clerical assistant referred to was placed in charge of the typewriting room about four years ago, because of his general efficiency and special qualifications. He has been retained in that position ever since, because he has done his work most efficiently and is believed to be the best qualified in the office.
