§ MR. KIMBER (Wandsworth)
I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury when he expects to be able to announce the conclusions of the Government as to the appointment of an additional Judge or Judges, or as to what other means they will take to obviate the grievous delays, and consequent losses and anxieties, in obtaining justice to which suitors are exposed?
§ THE FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURY (Mr. W. H. SMITH, Strand, Westminster)
It is no doubt a very general opinion, in which the Government are disposed to concur, that an additional Judge is required in the Chancery Division, but I am not prepared to say at what time the state of Public Business will enable the Government to submit a Motion on the subject. Meanwhile, efforts are being made to diminish the pressure of causes by the assistance of Judges of the Queen's Bench Division, where lists are in a satisfactory condition.
