§ MR. CUNINGHAME GRAHAM (Lanark, N.W.)
I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether it is intended to take steps to prosecute the Railway Company for the deaths and injuries caused at Taunton by the signals being left in charge of an aged and incapacitated man?
§ SIR M. HICKS BEACH
I understand that the Coroner's Return giving the verdict of the jury in the case referred to has not yet been received by the Home Office, but no facts have been brought to my notice which would lead me to adopt the description which the hon. Member uses of the man who was in charge of the signals. The Report of the Inspecting Officer on the accident has to-day been laid before me. While I do not think the circumstances at all justify a prosecution, I intend to call the attention of the company to grave infringement of their regulations, which contributed to the accident.
