§ MR. MURPHY (Dublin, St. Patrick's)
asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, in view of the introduction of the Criminal Law Amendment (Ireland) Bill, and the requirements for large prison accommodation which may be expected should the Bill become law, Whether the Government have abandoned the idea of closing Richmond Prison?
§ THE CHIEF SECRETARY (Mr. A. J. BALFOUR) (Manchester, E.)
The Government do not apprehend any great increase in the demand for prison accommodation. The closing of Richmond Prison, however, has not yet been finally decided on.
